]]>
AI-based photo processing denotes the implementation of artificial intelligence technology for the purpose of visual image enhancing. When deep learning technologies emerged, such innovative type of visual image processing became increasingly popular among amateur photo editors, freelance and professional photographers. Have you ever wondered, how does AI-based photo processing function? If yes, then this article will provide insight into this topic. Continue reading to learn more about the principles of AI-based photo processing functioning.

Overview

AI-based photo processing is gaining momentum. It assists the specialists with the process of photo editing and helps improve quality, reduce noise, adjust color palette and lighting, and enhance the photos with advanced sophisticated effects to add more artistry to the final product. With the help of a well-established software development company in US, you can develop high-quality AI-based software.

The AI-based technology proved to be a powerful instrument that can boost the photographers’ efficiency and make their work more productive, saving both time and monetary resources of the companies. In this article, we will study the most important principles of AI-based photo processing performance, which make this tool prevail over the traditional ways of photo editing.

Principles of Work Performance

Let’s find out how the AI-based photo processing works. First of all, the system recognizes the output image. Then it feeds the image into a deep learning network, which has been previously trained with the help of a huge amount of data. The network is so intelligent that it can make its own decisions on how to improve the process on the basis of previous learning techniques.

For example, one of the most widespread method in the AI-oriented photo processing is so-called image visual enhancement. According to this method, the neural network can identify and remove noise, adjust the color balance, and sharpen edges in order to enrich the vibrancy of the visuals. Surprisingly, this can be done with little or no human assistance. AI-based neural networks are capable of amazing creativity and have great potential to incorporate the styles of great artists of the past into their work. They create masterpieces based on the huge amount of data previously downloaded into their system. As a result, images look more appealing and natural to the viewers.

One more interesting method is style transfer, which denotes transferring of the style of one image onto the others. This method is widely implemented in order to create artistry and rich visual effects to adjust visuals to various innovative styles. In fact, AI-based photo processing can transform the image into the oil painting, black and white or sepia image or style it according to the definite time period peculiarities or a school of art.

What is interesting, AI-based photo processing can effectively enhance photos of inferior quality. For example, if there are harsh weather conditions or dim lighting, the photos may be not perfect. With the help of AI-based photo editing, photo professionals can improve the quality of the image with the help of improving how bright and color-balanced the images are, remove the noise and unnecessary details.

Additionally, artificial intelligence could work with visuals in a far more advanced way. For instance, a smart network can eliminate or add particular objects to the photo, adjust the background and change age, mimics and gestures of the humans in the image.

Conclusion

AI-based photo processing has many advantages over traditional photo processing. As you could conclude after reading this enlightening article, it uses different methods to enhance the photo editing process and make it more joyous, effective and convenient. As AI-based tools are often considered to be a more cost-efficient option for photo editing than human specialists, this may be a great option for small-sized companies and startups, the owners of which could not afford to hire extra personnel with a specific skill set.

The AI-based systems can recognize the visual image, identify the excessive elements and noise and eliminate the objects that are not needed in the picture. Similarly, the artificial intelligence is capable of enhancing the images with the help of sophisticated tools. For instance, photo editors can add objects, enhance color palette, or adjust the picture to the specific art style or imitate the work of a famous artist.

This being said, AI-based photo processing is a great instrument that can improve images and introduce changes to make photos perfect. Thanks to the rich tool set, artificial intelligence photo processing is a precious tool for designers, artists, photographers, photo editors and all creative people who are eager to experiment with images.

A camera is a machine for recording light. It sees the world differently than humans do. And competent processing allows you to show the advantages of the frame, to reveal the potential of the image, to show the world how you saw that moment. Let us use the analogy of cooking: you can eat any food raw, but after proper processing, you will get something much tastier. It’s the same with an image. A “raw” picture from a camera is not the final product, but the source, the starting point for a finished work. This is why it is important for a photographer to learn not only how to use the camera, but also how to “develop” the resulting material.

Work with pictures only on a computer with a quality screen

The monitor is the photographer’s eye. Correct, unbiased color reproduction is very important for retouching. Very often on inexpensive monitors manufacturers artificially raise the contrast and color saturation, and the picture because of this looks unnatural. If you choose a laptop to work with the image, the decisive criterion must be the display. The screens based on the IPS matrix are well-proven.

View the result of retouching on different displays

Not all of your viewers will view your photos on a screen with impeccable color reproduction. That’s why it’s a good idea to look at your images on other, less-than-perfect displays before publishing them. It is worth reviewing pictures on a smartphone and television – it becomes clear how others will see the photo. Often these checks result in corrections so that the picture looks good on any screen.

Develop your own script for working with photos

The technological process of creating a photo begins with generating an idea, planning and organizing the shooting, making arrangements with the model, or buying airline tickets. The moment you press the shutter button is important, but far from the last. Here’s a sample list of the stages of creating a finished photo, which are done after the shoot, on the PC:

 • selecting and cataloging the footage;
 • RAW conversion;
 • retouching and color correction;
 • resizing and preparation for publication.

The first two steps usually involve RAW converters like Adobe Lightroom or Phase One Capture One. But for the fine work with color and contrast, the elimination of minor flaws (such as flaws in the skin of the model) is used Adobe Photoshop. The final preparation for publication is also more convenient to perform in this program.

But every photographer works with photos in his own way. It is important to find the most convenient and fastest scenario for yourself. How and where do I save the source files? Where do I send the copies that are already prepared for publication? In what programs and in what order do you open the photos?

Developing your own scenario you can speed up the whole process, because you know exactly what and where you have to edit, which processing steps are waiting for the photo.

Make a plan of action

Often a photographer, having opened the image in an editor, doesn’t know what he/she wants to get as a result, and starts turning over all the settings. This approach is probably a good one at first, when you are exploring the functions of photo editors. But later it will have a negative effect on the result: the processing will turn out to be unnatural, pictures will look different.

Therefore, before you start, make a plan, describe what you want to fix in the picture. And after that, go ahead. In my practice of landscape photography it usually starts with adjusting the dynamic range, white balance, exposure, horizon and perspective distortion in a RAW converter. In Adobe Photoshop it’s worth removing unwanted objects (dust on the sensor, for example). In Adobe Photoshop, thanks to masks and layers, the possibilities of making local adjustments are much wider than in the RAW converter. It is possible that you can improvise, but it is better to stick to the original plan. And if the plan doesn’t work, start with a new algorithm.

A high-performance computer – comfort and efficiency when working with photos

Of course, the screen is the main detail of the laptop for the photographer.

The power of simple office laptops is hardly enough for serious work with graphics. Here it is worth paying attention to specialized models. There are options on the market for content creators: photographers, designers, videographers. For good performance in graphics editors, it is important to have a discrete video card.

The order of photo storage – their safety and efficient operation

More often than not, photos get lost not because of technical problems, but because of clutter. Randomly named folders, lack of systematization – these are the main reasons.

For a photo archive it is convenient to sort photos into folders by dates, naming them “year-month-number-description of the event”. You can also use cloud storages. They allow you to back up your files on-the-fly, and provide links to your clients. Not a fan of cloud storage? An external hard drive is an alternative.

Don’t get carried away with excessive processing

At the beginning of the creative path a photographer wants to try all the techniques, available filters and adjustments. It makes the result of processing unnatural. Where are the limits of acceptable processing? It all depends on the taste of each viewer and photographer. But one thing is certain: blatantly “over-photoshopped” photos rarely evoke a positive reaction. Retouching that is not conspicuous is good. When processing a photo, try to make a little less correction than you would like – so you can reinsure a little.

Don’t work with the photo for a long time without a break

Your eyes get used to the picture on the screen, and the color perception changes with time. If you look at saturated colors for a long time, they will cease to seem as such, you will want to raise the saturation. Therefore, it is important to take breaks, say, every 15-30 minutes. Look out the window, into the distance. You can collect a selection of photos with a color reference for you and periodically review them, adjusting your perception.

Don’t post a photo as soon as you have processed it

Color perception may change throughout the day. Therefore do not be in a hurry to publish or send a photo “with a bang”. If time permits, keep the photos and look at them again the next day, or at least a couple of hours after they have been processed. After the pause, you’ll see the shots differently, and you’ll be able to notice previously overlooked nuances.

Find your style

As with any creative activity, there are styles, trends and fashions in processing. The same photo can be processed in different ways, and all options will have a right to life. Once you’ve learned not to make mistakes, start looking for your recognizable style, not only in your photography, but also in your processing. It will determine what programs, techniques and tools you use.

It may happen that you take photos in one style for example, but persistently do it in another. This is even a good thing. However, to form your own taste in processing, you need to look at quality photos more often. It’s like playing at an online casino, where a player develops his winning strategy by playing roulette, poker or slot machines.

Bonus tip: always learn

The world does not stand still. New techniques, tools, and processing styles appear. Yes, the basics haven’t changed much in recent decades, but every year something comes along that can adjust your approach. To keep up with the times, you have to keep learning. The photographer who thinks he already knows everything is bad, it’s a sign of creative stagnation.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced designer, this tutorial will provide you with the tools and techniques you need to create a professional banner ad that showcases your wireless headphones and drives traffic to your store. So let’s get started!

6 Essential Steps to Designing the Perfect Ad Banner

 1. Choose Your Landing Page
 2. Define your target audience
 3. Determine your message
 4. Choose the right design elements
 5. Test your banner ad
 6. Monitor and optimize your banner ad

Choose Your Landing Page

It is important to choose the right landing page before drawing a banner because the landing page should be strictly consistent with the content of the banner ad. If you advertise the best wireless earbuds with ear hooks and the user is directed to a page with all of your headphones, it may be confusing and they may lose interest. To avoid this, it’s important to make sure the user is directed to a relevant landing page that matches the content of the banner ad

Consistency helps to create a cohesive and seamless user experience. If the banner ad and the landing page have a consistent look and feel, it helps the user understand that they have arrived at the right place. This can increase the chances of converting users into customers.

Matching colors and styles can create a professional and trustworthy image for your business. If the banner ad and landing page have a consistent visual style, it can convey to the user that your business is professional and reliable.

Overall, making sure that the banner content is strictly consistent with the landing page content is crucial for creating a positive user experience and maximizing the effectiveness of your banner ad. By matching colors and styles and ensuring that the user knows they have arrived at the right place, you can build trust and credibility with your audience and increase the chances of converting them into customers.

Define your target audience

The first step in creating a banner ad is to identify your target audience. Consider who you are trying to reach with your ad, what their interests and needs are, and how you can appeal to them. This will help you tailor your ad to the right people and increase its effectiveness.

A buyer’s portrait of wireless earbuds with hooks might look like this:

Athletes who work out in the gym: These buyers are likely interested in earbuds that are comfortable, secure, and sweat-resistant. They may be more focused on the fit and function of the earbuds than on the aesthetics. They may be male or female and range in age from 18 to 45.

Those who like to run in the park: These buyers are likely interested in earbuds that are lightweight, comfortable, and able to withstand the elements. They may be more concerned with finding earbuds that stay in place and don’t fall out during their runs. They may also be interested in earbuds that offer a high-quality sound experience. They may be male or female and range in age from 25 to 60.

Those who ride bicycles: These buyers are likely interested in earbuds that are compact, lightweight, and secure. They may be looking for earbuds that are easy to use while on the go and that don’t get in the way of their cycling. They may be male or female and range in age from 18 to 50.

Overall, buyers of wireless earbuds with hooks are likely to be active individuals who value a secure and comfortable fit. They may be looking for earbuds that are specifically designed for their chosen activity, such as running or cycling, and that offer a high-quality sound experience.

Determine your message

Next, think about what you want to communicate through your banner ad. What makes your wireless headphones stand out from the competition? For example:

Unique design: If the headphones have a unique or innovative design, this could make them stand out from the competition. For example, they may have a unique shape or color scheme, or they may incorporate advanced materials or technologies that other headphones don’t offer.

Advanced features: If the headphones offer advanced features that are not available on other headphones, this could make them stand out from the competition. These features might include noise cancellation, water resistance, or long battery life.

High-quality sound: If the headphones offer a high-quality sound experience, this could make them stand out from the competition. This could include a wide frequency range, rich bass, and clear, detailed highs.

What benefits can you offer to your potential customers? Your message should be clear and concise, and it should focus on the key features and benefits of your headphones.

Choose the correct design elements

Once you have a clear idea of your message, it’s time to start designing your banner ad. Choose design elements that are visually appealing and convey your message effectively. This can include images, text, colors, and fonts. Make sure to use a consistent visual style and keep the design simple and clutter-free.

Test your banner ad

Before you launch it, it’s important to test it to see how it performs. This can help you identify any issues or improvements that need to be made.

You can try A/B testing, Multivariate testing, Split testing and Performance tracking.

Monitor and optimize your banner ad

Once your banner ad is live, keep an eye on its performance and make any necessary adjustments. This can include changing the design, the message, or the targeting to improve the ad’s effectiveness. Regularly monitoring and optimizing your banner ad will help you get the best results and maximize your return on investment.

Summary

In conclusion, crafting the perfect ad banner for your wireless headphones store is essential for attracting and retaining customers. A well-designed banner ad can increase brand awareness, drive traffic to your website, and ultimately lead to increased sales.

To create an effective banner ad, it is important to define your target audience, determine your message, and choose the right design elements. You should also test your banner ad and monitor its performance to identify any issues or opportunities for improvement. By following these best practices, you can craft a banner ad that effectively showcases your wireless headphones and drives results for your business.

The 21st century is a time of innovation and fast-paced content. Even old-school people aged 60+ now have a smartphone with a good camera and capture meaningful moments in their lives. Bloggers, or opinion leaders, have gone much further than that. They create unique photos, collages and videos. They even use their mobile phones to take photos for websites.

Of course a usual photo without studio light and processing looks a little bit raw. But how do bloggers manage to fill them with colorfulness and make such an amazing retouching as for the cover of a glossy magazine? No, they don’t take dozens of courses in photography and photo correction. They have a set of apps they work with day in and day out to create the perfect image.

In this article, you’ll find a selection of photo editing apps for your smartphone. They are all free, but offer a comprehensive range of features, filters and capabilities. All of the following apps can be downloaded on both Android and iPhone.

Snapseed

Snapseed is a free professional photo editor from Google. It combines simplicity with a variety of features for photo editing. Among these features you will find not only standard tools like cropping or straightening, but much more! The editor will allow you to apply text, make stickers, create stunning collages and much more.

One of the most significant tools is “spot-correction” – allows you to remove unnecessary objects in a photo, and smooth out surfaces. It’s the equivalent of a paintbrush in Photoshop. Girls often use this tool to make their skin look perfect and flawless.

VSCO

VSCO is another powerful tool that users can use to edit photos. In essence, it’s not just a photo editor, but an entire social network with editing tools and the ability to communicate with other users.

The main option of this app is filters. Some of which are available for free. Users can get even more filters by taking out a paid subscription, but by trying out a test period first. In case the premium seems irrelevant to you, you can cancel the subscription at the end of the trial period.

Why recommend VSCO?

 • Over 200 presets to enhance your photo’s uniqueness. There are even vintage filters from Kodak, Agfa and Ilford.
 • Users benefit from enhanced editing tools.
 • The app even includes the ability to edit videos, create a moving collage and more.
 • Images can be edited and collages can be made using exclusive tools like HSL and Borders.

If you wish, you can post the photo to the VSCO community feed and collect feedback on your work. If you’re an active Instagram user, the application allows you to share the picture directly to the desired social network. Without any additional manipulation with downloading. You can also send your collage or video from the app to WhatsApp or by regular SMS.

Prisma Photo Editor

Have you seen the avatars on social media with the page owner’s image in the style of a 2D drawing? Have you ever wondered how they are made? It’s unlikely that everyone has commissioned cartoon images from some artist. If you fancy doing something similar again, Prisma Photo Editor is the answer.

The application combines neural networks and artificial intelligence, which is why the pictures are done so well.

Prisma will allow you to create masterpieces, as if they had just been taken from the easels of Picasso and Dali, absolutely free of charge. The creation of pictures is easy, even very entertaining. You can choose from over 500 filters for your creativity. And if you like, you can show the whole Prisma community your masterpieces. Or simply save them on your smartphone or add them to another social network.

Adobe Photoshop Express

It’s hard to imagine anyone who has never heard of Adobe Photoshop. The tool is used by photographers, graphic designers, web designers and many other artists. The new version of Adobe Photoshop Express is a free, fast and easy-to-use tool that lets you put your creativity to use.

The mobile version of the application offers a wide range of features that are easy to use on a smartphone. To access the functionality, the app will ask you to create an account or log in to an existing one. You can use an existing account from the desktop version of Ps, or sign in with a social network account. Immediately after logging in with your in-app account you can start editing the image.

You can then remove objects, add a new object, a sticker or overlay another image. Of course the functionality doesn’t stop there, there are also built-in filters, templates for collages and different fonts for adding text to the picture. You can save the image in different sizes and extensions. You can then share the image on your social networks or even use it for business.

Foodie

If you’re an active Instagram user, you’ll find Foodie very familiar. Its editor is as similar as possible to Instagram’s built-in editor. This tool will be useful for flick makers, as there are more than 30 filters available for food shots. For maximum results, we recommend checking out the ‘smart guide’ feature for capturing food and other compositions from above. This app will help you create juicy food shots.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC

Adobe Lightroom CC is another equally worthy modification of the Photoshop editor for mobile devices. In the app you can crop photos, change the aspect ratio, and do processing using filters and various effects. In addition, you can work with curves directly in the application, make professional colour correction and make point changes in the photo.

An important feature of this application is the possibility of working with RAW files, which are of a high quality and are usually used by professional photographers.

There are also additional features in the app. But you can get access to them by subscribing to Adobe Creative Cloud. The following features are available to the user: Restoration Brush, Selective Photo Correction, Geometry, Cloud Storage and Adobe Sensei.

Bottom Line

To find the best free photo editing app for you and your brand, you need to first define your goals and then test some photo editing apps to find the right one for you.

For best results, it is better to use one or two photo editors – it is better to become advanced in one app than to have mediocre skills in many.

It is no longer possible to make a good, expressive (in the way we are used to it now) photograph without computer processing. At the exhibition of old (pre-computer) photographs, scratches, dust particles and heterogeneity in the development process prevent one from appreciating the skill of photography and the uniqueness of the subjects. It is not that difficult to correct defects with modern tools if you know how to use them. Balancing colors, adjusting brightness, general and local contrast in brightness and color, correcting distortion of optics, retouching random image elements are the usual computer toolkit of a photographer. There are many programs with such tools ranging from simple “for viewing” to complex editors. A special place among these programs is occupied by packages in which the applied functions and the training part are combined. Interestingly, this feature is not considered most important even by those who promote programs, and it is not number one in the list of features. However, it is the ability to use the full capabilities of the programs that most photographers lack. As a result, the “photoshopped” photos turn out to be the lowest grade. Corel PaintShop Pro X4 refers to programs with built-in learning tools and at the same time is a very effective graphics editor for the Windows platform with full professional capabilities.

The Corel PaintShop Pro X4 version inherited most of the functionality from previous releases. A couple of years ago I wrote a review of Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2, and it is not fundamentally outdated. Therefore, those who are interested, it is recommended to see the previous article.

Program slightly changed the name by removing from it Photo, and made it much more compact (taking up space on your hard drive has decreased, about 4-5 times) than the previous version X3, and in many operations faster. Fundamental changes in terms of fine manual processing tools in the new version is not (in general, it’s hard to imagine what else can come up with this new). But changed the set of “synthetic” functions, in which most of the action is performed automatically or with a little intervention from the user. In fact, the change in interface in programs where processing and learning are combined is already “fundamental”. It just doesn’t seem that important if you’re familiar with the capabilities of the program in its older implementations and don’t expect it to prompt you in your work.

Corel PaintShop Pro X4 interface and tools

The program interface is represented by three modules: “Management”, “Configuration” and “Edit”. It would be logical to add “Publishing” as well, but it is not present in version X4. Although Version X3 had Project Creator with extremely extensive features for publishing to the Web, and files of different formats (PDF, photo albums, cards, collages, calendars, photo and video slideshows). Only Facebook and Flickr publishing as well as e-mail integration are left out of all that. The developers explain this change by the desire to make the program more stable, compact, and conceptually coherent.

“The first window of the program is “Management”. It is intended for organizing the photo archive, attributing (tags and ratings) and searching for files, compiling selections-collections, selecting files for further processing to the “Materials” shelf in the “Organizer” (lower horizontal panel in the illustration). The “Auto Grouping” function of the “Organizer” panel allows you to automatically group photos separated by small time intervals, which facilitates the sorting process. This is just one of the modes of the effective and flexible search and grouping module built into the program. You will also find this feature useful when searching for series for subsequent HDR or “Blending Photos” processing.

The “Adjustment” window lets you adjust the image “in general,” without local retouching. By simply following the order of the toolbar tabs (the left vertical bar below the histogram window), you can “bring” the photo to the desired level. In fact, the built-in automatic and semi-automatic features in the “Customize” module will perform even some of the local retouching operations, but without the painstaking manual work. These include the tools represented by the icons in the Settings panel: “Red Eyes”, “Slimness” and “Cosmetics” (wrinkle retouching, teeth and eye whites whitening, tanning) as well as cloning.

The “Edit” window contains all popular general and local retouch tools for bitmap graphics. You can work with normal and adjustment layers, there are blending and layering functions, various photo effects, a panel of built-in and user-defined macros, a history log, “calculations”, etc. What I didn’t find that I often use was the LAB representation of the image (only RGB/CMYK/HSL are available).

The collapsible “Organizer” panel can be opened in all Control / Setup / Edit windows, but not all of its functions are available. For example, you can navigate and search your computer’s folders from both “Setup” and “Edit” without having to return to “Management” to do so. But transferring processing recipes from file to file (i.e. processing a file without its explicit processing step in the “Edit” window) can be performed only in the “Management” mode.

The “Manage” / “Setup” / “Edit” windows are not independent. If a file is processed in the last two module-windows and is not saved, it is not possible to temporarily access the file or operation in another window without saving changes. This probably saves the beginner from errors and data loss, but somewhat reduces the productivity of skilled users. In addition, it does not seem very rational to me that the “Learning Center” is available to the user only in the window “Edit”, so the study of the program with the help of the manual will have to start at the end – from the window “Edit” in this sense. Apparently, the interface of the “Management” and “Setup” windows the developers consider intuitive as it is.

Program customization

Corel PaintShop Pro X4 is a graphic editor with the ability to customize the user interface. Side, bottom and top toolbars and properties are collapsible and expandable, they can be separated and moved to another place in the program window or outside it. You can select a color scheme, save and load customizable workspaces. There are many settings for data presentation and display formats (e.g., decimal and hexadecimal representation) and automatic actions (e.g., auto-save file).

Editing tools

The editing tools can be accessed in the “Setup” and “Edit” operating modes. The tools are collected in the familiar “Edit”, “Image”, “Adjustment”, “Effects” menus and in the special panels “Photo”, “Effects”, “Photo Enhancement”, etc. In the first case, they (function commands) are presented as text, in the second – as clear icons. The “View Tools” tab of the “Effects” panel helps you see and feel how certain functions, tools and effects work. Once the user is more or less familiar with the basic functions of the program, it is in this panel that he should take a look and see how a particular tool affects the image.

An experienced user will find the usual image correction tools in the program. The illustration shows examples of image correction with “curves” and “histogram correction”. The function windows, apart from the control elements themselves, have “Before / After” viewing windows, elements for saving and calling the settings, and for calling the help. The effect of the applied function can be evaluated in the built-in Before / After windows and in the main processing window, if the View Image option is enabled. The function window is manually scaled to full screen (by dragging the marker in the lower right corner). The format of the function windows is inherited from older versions and is good for small window sizes, but looks irrational when presented full-screen (the “Before/After” windows take up only a part of the screen and most of the window space remains empty).

The last version of the program introduced the RAW file processing module. Its implementation in version X4 differs significantly from the previous one. The “Exposure” and the separate noise filtering (by brightness and color) disappeared from the set of processing commands. But the histogram indicator and the “Flare Recovery” command block were added. The examples in the illustration show how dramatically the “Flare Repair” changes the picture. It is therefore wise to start processing with adjusting the white balance and choosing the flare reduction algorithm, and then move on to other parameters. What the new RAW module still lacks is the possibility of batch processing of files of the same type (as mentioned above, the processing settings can be transferred from file to file only in the “Management” window). It would also be useful to choose the format, color depth and resolution of the output file right in the module window. Without it, you either have to use the “Modify” command and after opening the adjusted RAW-files as 16-bit .pspimage in the processing window, re-save them in the desired representation, or batch convert files from the Organizer panel after the “Apply” command.

New features

The press release from Corel on the release of PaintShop Pro version X4 notes that it has more than 75 new and improved features. The list includes an improved HDR module, “Photo Blending” (to eliminate random details in the image collected from a series of photos), “Selective Focus” (to simulate optics with a tilted optical axis), “Fill Light” and “Fill Clarity” (for local correction of brightness and clarity). With their help, you can without much difficulty greatly improve the expressiveness of the photo (“Fill Light” and “Fill Clarity”), make it in the key of HDR, toy scene – “Selective Focus”. The general orientation of the program for beginners and training has found expression in the implementation of new functions – they usually run synchronously with the window describing the function and brief tips on how and what to do. I’d like to add to these tips that the “effect” function should be used in the layer blending mode. Just using the “effect” function is enough for a photo with a small resolution. And 10-20 Mpx pictures in the effect view tend to look sloppy and allow you to notice artifacts of the automation. That is why for serious work it is better to combine two layers (the natural one and the “effect” one) and add a mask to hide obvious “mistakes”.

“Photo blending” is fundamentally similar to the HDR feature, but with it you blend not different “exposures” by brightness, but by image elements. If in the key photo the model has her eyes closed, and in the series of photos there is the same model with her eyes open – you can assemble one “correct” photo from several (as in the illustration). The same result can be obtained by combining layers, but you will have to work with your hands, creating thin masks. The masks generated by “Blending Photos” are not particularly neat, but the module’s interface is simple and straightforward and will allow beginners (or those in a hurry) to quickly edit groups of photos that require blending details or removing random elements.

The peculiarity of the interface PaintShop Pro X4 in the implementation of a step by step or staged processing, in which the user does not need a special understanding of the principles of computer processing, if he does not own them. The interface assumes (one might even say, suggests) the successive stages: uploading photos to a computer (in the program database), description and sorting of pictures, processing of selected photos and their publication. Added to this are tools for searching metadata, filters or standard processing effects (B&W, sepia toning, frames, HDR), integration with Internet applications. And finally, there is a built-in guide to the processing principles and functions of the application in the working window of the program. It is a good “flying desk” or program for work and learning. On the other hand, such realization of the program is good not only for beginners but also for lazy people: step-by-step processing eliminates the need to be creative in developing one’s own strategy and tactics to deal with the flow of photos. For all its external focus on an audience of beginners, the program is a development of a versatile and effective package and has everything you need to bring your photos to perfection (channels, layers, drawing and cloning tools, optics correction and workflow automation tools, support for 8-bit and 16-bit data representation, color management, etc.).

Included (boxed version), except for the disc with the program and bonuses, is a well-made book (pocket-sized with color illustrations) – User Guide, which allows you to master the intricacies of photo editing, without the distraction of switching between computer applications – PaintShop Pro X4 and program for reading electronic documentation. The program has some weaknesses. What you might not like depends on the editing style to which the user is used to. For me, for example, I miss the LAB, the tools for effective “color recovery,” and graphical interface elements that indicate the tools, it seems too colorful and “unprofessional,” as well as not very rationally arranged function windows. But all these things are trifles against the background of simply the widest set of processing tools, which can be used as a set of plug-ins and ready-made solutions for all occasions.
