Lightroom 2.5 Update Is Available!

Adobe has released an update for Lightroom to version 2.5. This is a maintenance upgrade and fixes the following issues:

  • Lightroom 2.4 on Windows continued to display the import dialog when a memory card was detected regardless of the preference setting “Show import dialog when a memory card is detected.”
  • Lightroom 2.5 includes a correction to the demosaic algorithms for Bayer sensor cameras with unequal green response.

In addition, the following new cameras are now supported:

  • Nikon D300s, D3000
  • Olympus E-P1
  • Panasonic DMC-FZ35, DMC-GF1

The update can be downloaded within Lightroom via Help then Check for Updates… of you can download it directly from Adobe. It is available for both Windows and Mac.

Also released is an update to bring Camera Raw to version 5.5. It is also available for Windows and Mac.

I just upgraded to Lightroom 2.5. Installed this afternoon. Just prior to install, I had been editing photos in a catalogue (previous version--might have been 2.1 or 2.4). When I upgraded then opened the catalogue, ALL the edits in that catalogue were gone. All of them. Any suggesstions for retrieving them?
  • Hi!

That's very unusual. Check to see if the catalog was converted and placed in a different file. Usually when LR upgrades a catalog it leaves the existing one in place and creates a new one with the upgraded content. Try and find the original catalog. Make a copy just in case. Then try and re-upgrade the catalog.

Gene, thanks for the quick response. I have searched all my drives for items with today's date and only find one Lightroom Catalogue (the one post-upgrade). I find a ton of previews, but I don't know how to open those...I clicked to open one of them and it launched Photoshop but Photoshop could not read the file.
  • Your catalog probably wouldn't have today's date but rather the date it was created. Search for files with the extension .lrcat to find all the LR catalogs.

My catalogues seems to get a date update every time I close the catalogue. I have opened all the .lrcat files and none of them have the edits I worked on today. I think I am SOL (as my daughter says, So Outta Luck).
  • Sorry to hear that. LR didn't prompt you to do a backup when you opened that catalog today did it? Perhaps you could look in your backups if it did.

I'll have to research this some more. I haven't come across this behavior before. Sorry we couldn't find a solution.

Thanks so much for your help. I am reading and teaching myself Lightroom and I love it. But the color thing was getting on my nerves LOL.
    Thanks again

Thanks, I know I need to calibrate , thought it may be something else going on. The difference in colors has just started since I began using Lightroom. Not sure what you mean about the paper profile and ink combo. Can you explain this a little more or maybe send me a link I can read about. Thanks for replying.
  • Try http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.aspx?p... for an intro to printer profiles.

Calibration is key. Once you have that you can get closer. Unfortunately, LR has no good soft proofing tools so you need to experiment. Just make sure that LR is managing the color and not the printer. Double check your settings in both LR and the printer driver.

Having a problem . When I finish editing images in Lightroom 2.5 and send to get printed the colors are sometimes way more saturated than in the edit window. Any suggestions ?
    Thanks

  • The first thing that comes to mind is calibration. If your monitor has not been properly calibrated then there can be a difference between what you see on screen and what comes out of the printer.

Also, check to see if you have used the right profile for paper and ink combination you are printing to.
